first week of holidays.

Cute kids, leaders being exploited for piggyback rides, exhaustion and a whole lot of fun... This can only mean one thing:
HOLIDAY CLUB BABY!

up and coming

Picture this: beautiful beaches spread out before you as you sip on a cold drink with your friends. In the sea, insanely talented surfers are ripping it up. Nothing but sun relaxation and good times. The daylight begins to disappear and you start to feel the anticipation for the evening. A concert that is boasting some of SA's top talents is on the line-up, two nights in a row. The stingy part of you is even more thrilled because miraculously, it's completely free.

This, dear people, is the Mr Price Pro held in Ballito. A surfing contest that runs from 2-8 July by day and home to two concerts by night held on the 6th and 7th. AHHHHHH I'm excited.

If you will be in Durban over this time, you need to be there. NEED.

Here's the concert line-up -
On Friday July 6: Gangs of Ballet will pave the way for Wonderboom, the Ard Matthews Trio, Shadow Club, aKing, Crash Car Burn and Flash Republic
and then on July 7: rising star Toya Delazy opens for Lloyd Cele, iscreamstix, Locnville, Pascal & Pearce, Goodluck and Dino Bravo

Time to send your party pants in for dry cleaning because they will be permanently on from 6-7 July! Yes!

yeah yeah Durban yeah yeah

My home city, Durbs, has really taken a lot of flack about crime and such, but it really is quite a spectacular place.

It's recently been listed as one of the World's top ten underrated cities, so we Durbanites are all really pleased and have put links everywhere. I JOINED IN!
Although I'm the first to admit Cape Town's awesomeness, I'm proud to live here and I'm rather chuffed that it's finally been acknowledged :)

Here's the link: (I told you about the links)

OHMYGOSH it's almost snow!

There's something you need to know - Durban is faaaar to hot for it to ever snow. Ever. I can't even remember it being below 10 degrees celcius on our coldest Winter's day...

But folks, tonight the most bizarre and incredible thing happened. A flipping MOTHER of a hailstorm took place and absolutely covered Durban North almost knee-deep in tiny balls of ice. As to be expected from a city deprived of snow, everyone was in a complete frenzy (myself included) because low and behold; THERE WAS (kind of) SNOW IN DURBAN!

Choruses of "Aw HAIL no" were flying around, accompanied by many creative puns that really wouldn't have been funny in a normal state of mind. This said, who am I to judge bad puns? I've made too many to count. "Let them make puns" is my philosphy!

It was truly a spectacular phenomenon.
However, the mess that was caused inside was a phenomenon of a different kind. But anyway.

Here are some photos I stole off Facebook:

Pixelation be cray cray. Sorry.

obsession - vintage maps

I actually have a vintage map travel-notebook from The Space. Yay!

Trust the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
acknowledge the Lord in all you do
and he will show you which path to take.

Useful Ways to Procastinate

Everyone struggles with prcrastination - it's bound to happen when faced with a vomit-indcing task like studying.

LIGHTBULB!

Because I feel a lot better about not studying when I feel like I'm doing something useful, here are 5 USEFUL ways to procrastinate:

One: Do some other work that's actually fun/tolerable. (Thank you, Art)

Two: Tidy your room or cupboards. You'll be grateful later.

Three: Watch some cooking programs (advise Jamie's 30 minute meals) and get yo' chef aaaaaan. Or 'learn how to cook' for the less gangsta folk.

Four: Some personal grooming never harmed anyone... Believe me, no one will moan when you stroll into the next social gathering smelling good and looking even better.

And lastly, Five: Exercise. Depending on your will not to study, you could be looking like the "After" of a diet-supplement advert sooner rather than later.

*side note - you actually should study and not procrastinate to the extent that you write a post about procratination like me.

One day when I'll be living the Parisian dream, and it WILL happen, I'm going to need to know where to go and what to do... So, I went and found the top 10 Parisian Pavement Cafes. (Unfortunately, on the web, not in person:( )

A Thousand Splendid Suns

{This spectacular book was written by the same author as The Kite Runner, Khaled Hosseini.}

Based in Afghanistan, mostly in the early 2000's, during the Taliban's take-over, it depicts the lives of the women during the time and the insane cruelty and predujice that was their reality.

It completely freaked me out that it was relatively recent and that I would have been the same age as one of the character's daughter at the same time. It blows my mind to think of how different my life would have been...

All I can say is that I have a much deeper sense of appreciation for beautiful South Africa, where despite many issues, we have freedom and equality as women.

I STRONGLY advise all of you to read it - especially those of you who are negative about our country. It really will change your perspective. I know it changed mine.

getting sentimental

Just a quick post to say how much I love and appreciate my friends.
Truly the greatest people in the world.
That'll be all.
